Cosumnes Oaks Forfeits 16 Games

When it rains, it pours on basketball programs in Elk Grove Unified.

Moments after Sac-Joaquin Section commissioner Pete Saco placed numerous sanctions on Sheldon's boys basketball team including banishment from the playoffs, along with a two-year probation, comes word that Cosumnes Oaks will forfeit 16 basketball games this season.

The Wolfpack were 19-1 until they discovered that one of that school's transfers was ineligible. He played in 16 of the Cosumnes Oaks games and thus the forfeit, according to EGUSD interim athletic director Todd Reiswig.

However, the Wolfpack has six more league games and if they do win out, finishing at least in third place or higher, they will compete in the post-season, according to Reiswig.

The player transferred from out of the area to play this season and it was determined this was an athletically-motivated transfer to move to Elk Grove to play basketball for Cosumnes Oaks.

Reiswig confirmed the school discovered the situation surrounding the player and self-reported the incident.
